Ajaokuta steel company not obsolete, Expert speaks at PEEF conference

A one time administrator of Delta Steel Company, Engr. Anthony Madangwa, has said that far from what some uniformed practitioners in the steel sector are saying, Ajaokuta steel company is not obsolete.

The statement came during the 7th annual conference of People’s Enterprise and Enterprise Foundation (PEEF) in Abuja.

The event which was organised on the theme “Accelerating Steel Sector Development, Achieving Zero Corruption in Procurement Management” had professionals in the steel sector, particularly Ajaokuta Steel Company limited, Itakpe Iron Ore Mining Company and the Delta Steel Company limited.

Others include experts and professionals from various fields of human endeavours, which include the Sole Administrator of the steel company, represented by Alhaji Muhammed Ibrahim, a former general manager of the company.

In attendance at the high level conference were the Minister of Steel Development, represented by the Director Steel, Engr. Umar Yusuf, the National Coordinator of Presidential Executive Order 5, Engr. Ibiam Oguejiofo, and the Director General of the Institute for Governance and Leadership Studies in Africa, Dr. Lanre Adebayo, who were both speakers at the one-day event.

In a telephone conversation with Mr. Mohammed Bougei Attah, the chairman of the Conference Planning Committee (CPC), he explained that the choice of the conference theme was necessitated by current realities which are “the focus on the Revival of Ajaokuta Steel Company and the need to be prudent, accountable and responsible in the management of such national asset as Ajaokuta”

Furthermore , he said the PEEF that put the conference together is a think-tank on serious national issues which every Nigerian has a responsibility to contribute.

He therefore commended the Executive Secretary of the Foundation, Dr. Musa Rabiu, for finding it necessary and important to draw the high and mighty together to discuss this pressing national concern.
