Ajanah pledges support for basketball development in Kogi

The Chief Judge of Kogi State, Justice Nasiru Ajanah has pledged his continued support for the development of basketball at the grassroots in the state.

Speaking ahead of the 2019 Ajanah Annual Basketball Championship finals holding in Okene, the retired basketball player said seeing many talents being churned out yearly has continued to inspire him to do more.

For him, the vision to impart his immediate environment and discover the next generation of basketball stars has remained the driving force behind his consistency for the annual competition which has officially been on for the past 11 years.

Justice Ajanah said, “We have been able to introduce 4 women teams this year which in a way compensated for our inability to hold the event last year due to reasons beyond our control. This year’s event is another eye opener about the abundance of basketball talents within and outside Kogi state.”

At the end of the group games, Ogori-Magongo finished top of group A while Idah finished second on 5 points with 1 point ahead of Omala LGA.

Okene LGA and Okehi LGA finished first and second respectively in group B while Dekina, Adavi and Ajaokuta LGA finished first, second and third in group C.

The 2019 edition which paraded 10 men’s teams and 4 women teams will be concluded on Monday, 30th of December with the semi-finals and finals to be decided in the men and women categories.
