Aisha Buhari, others to get corruption advocates award

Michelle’s Youth Initiative for Sustainable Development (MYISD), a non-governmental organisation (NGO) is set to award the Nigeria’s First Lady, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari and others as advocates of change in the fight against corruption.


According to the Executive Director, Comrade Michelle Onyeneke Peter, in a press statement issued in Abuja, on Wednesday lamented the spate of corrupt practices and its effect on the country.
Onyeneke said the group’s interventions and awareness programmes are aimed at assisting youth who have the small scale business ideas and make them know how to be self reliant rather than engaging on illegal activities to survive .


She said the awareness programme will also seek to give enlighten youth to shun corrupt activities and make them be a better person in the society adding that it is a clarion call for all hands to be on deck to fight the monster called corruption.
According to her, experts to deliver keynote speeches will be drawn from the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), ICPC and Code of Conduct Bureau. 
She said the First Lady, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari will be honoured for Anti-corruption excellent award and other awardees are Mallam Yusuf O Ali, SAN, Chief Mike Ozekhome, SAN, the Executive Director of the Nigerian Export Promotion Commission, Bar Segun Awolowo.


Others are Prof Charles C. Soludo,Former CBN Governor, Dr Kelechi Eric Igwe, Deputy Governor of Ebonyi state, Dr Emmanuel N Mbaka, MD Platinum mortgage bank Ltd, Hon Dr Ned Nwoko, chair man Linas international limited, the President Belema oil producing limited, Engineer Jack-Rich Tein Jnr.
Also, other awardees are Chief Chikwe Udensi, CEO Sheiks and Bishop limited, Dr George Uboh. CEO panic Alert security systems, Chief Felix Obuah, chairman Krisdera hotels and Resort, Hon Uzoma Nkem Abonta, representing Ukwa east/ukwa west constituency.


She said the aim of the award is to encourage them and for others to borrow leaf  adding that the fight is not just going to be based on financial corruption, but a positive attitudinal change is key.
The International Anti-Corruption Day has been observed annually, on December 9, since the passage of the United Nations Convention Against Corruption to raise public awareness for anti-corruption.
