Agency trains 32 postal managers

The Nigeria Postal Service (NPS), in collaboration with the Universal Postal Union (UPU), on Monday began a two-week capacity training programme for 32 principal postal managers across five West African countries.
The event, which held at the Nigeria Postal Institute in Benin City, Edo state, had participating delegates from Nigeria, Gambia, Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone.

In his opening remark, Postmaster General of the Federation, Malam Ibrahim Mori Baba, expressed joy that Nigeria was hosting  the workshop and by extension contributing towards the improvement of postal service in the sub-region.
According to him, the programme will also assist to inculcate in the participants, new ideas and attitudes in carrying out their respective duties.
He said: “For us in the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST), we believe that investing in human capital development will assist our staff to acquire new skills and knowledge which will also lead to increase in productive efficiency.”

Baba added that the Postmaster-General disclosed that amidst emerging technological challenges, the postal sector had continued to serve as critical infrastructure and a secure communication, payment and delivery services between senders and receivers.
“This programme therefore provides ample opportunity for all the participants to discuss and share experiences on how best to proceed, taking into consideration each country’s specific needs as well as the sub-region.”

On his part, a director in the Ministry of Communication and Technology, who represented the minister, Alhaji Ahmed Mohammed, urged the participants to make valuable suggestions and recommendations, which if adopted, would make postal administrations perform better.
