The President of Karate Federation of Nigeria, Mr. Silas Ali Agara has called on the athletes to sharpen their skills in the National Open championship which will run from today (Tuesday) till Saturday in Abuja as the championship will be used to select athletes that will represent the country at the Tokyo-2020 Olympics games
Agara who is also the deputy governor of Nasarawa State disclosed in a press statement made available to our correspondent last night that the championship will serve as litmus test for athletes as all hands are on deck to ensure a hitch free and successful championship.
The championship is the second major event to be sponsored by the federation headed by him since their inauguration in July this year. The first was the Union Federations Africane Karate (UFAK) zone 3 International Championship which took place in Cotonou, Benin Republic where Nigeria’s contingent performed exceptionally well, winning seven medals for the country.
He implored participants from the 36 States, including the FCT to take the championship seriously and be a good ambassador.
While urging the athletes, coaches, referees to strive towards actualizing the nation’s dream of placing the game of Karate on the world map of recognition, Mr. Agara further wished them a hitch-free competition, thereby appealing to the participants to abide by the rules of the game.
