Again, Real Madrid succumb to La Liga defeat

For the second midweek in a row, Real Madrid fell to a defeat on the road in LaLiga Santander, this time losing 2-0 at Real Sociedad as Takefusa Kubo and Ander Barrenetxea scored at either end of the second half.

This was always going to be a tough game for Real Madrid, as they were missing key players like the suspended Eduardo Camavinga and Vinicius, the injured Luka Modric or even their top scorer Karim Benzema, who was mysteriously left out of the matchday squad.

Despite all these absences, it was Real Madrid who had the first good chance as an Eder Militao header drew a good save from Alex Remiro in the opening 10 minutes.

But, Real Sociedad grew into the game and could have taken a lead into the dressing room before the break, but Martin Zubimendi hit the crossbar when it was easier to score and David Silva failed to take a good chance too.

Into the second half, though, Real Sociedad made their dominance count. And, they received a major helping hand from Eder Militao, as his poor back pass was straight towards Kubo, who pounced to score against his former club.

Real Sociedad’s task was made easier when Dani Carvajal picked up a second yellow card and was sent off on the hour mark.

But, just to make sure, academy graduate Barrenetxea fired in a second goal with just a few minutes to go to kill off the game and earn La Real a 2-0 win. For Real Madrid, it means they head to the Copa del Rey final on the back of a defeat.
