Again, Police Service Commission spreads promotions, new DIG, AIGs, CPs, others emerge 

The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the appointment of the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 14 Katsina, AIG

Yahaya Sahabo Abubakar as Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG).

This is as the commission also approved the promotion of 122 other senior police officers including 10 Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the next rank of AIG; 15 Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) to substantive Commissioners and 36 Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to DCPs; as well as 61 Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) elevated to the next rank ACP.

PSC Head, Press and Public Relations, Ikechukwu Ani, who disclosed this in a press statement in Abuja, stated that the decisions were taken at the extraordinary Management Meeting of the Commission held on Thursday, June 6, 2024 and presided over by the Chairman of the Commission, IGP Solomon Arase (retd.).

He noted that DIG Abubakar would represent the North-east Geopolitical zone in the Police Management Team, replacing DIG Habu Sani who recently retired as DIG Force Intelligence Bureau (FIB).

Ani further stated that the newly promoted DIG, 10 CPs and 15 DCPs appeared before the commission in session for the compulsory interactive promotion interview as required for their promotion to the next rank.

He said the PSC chairman informed the officers that in the emerging dynamic and ubiquity of crime and criminality within the revolution in information and communication technology, charting pathways for effective  policing and internal security management has to be from informed crafting and employment of applicable mix of strategies, standard operating  procedures and tactics by the Police, other law enforcement and regulatory agencies of the state, mainstreaming a knowledge driven Police Force staffed by mentally mobile work force refined for optimum service delivery.

The spokesperson said Arase charged them to be genuinely committed to their responsibility of securing the Nigerian nation by effectively protecting lives and property, preventing and containing crimes and criminality across the nation.

Ani listed the CPs promoted to the rank of AIG to include: CP ICT Department, Force Headquarters, and former CP Enugu, Ahmed i; Deputy Commandant Police Academy, Wudil Kano, Mohammed Dankwara Adamu; CP Kano State Command, Gumel Mohammed  Usaini; CP Oyo State Command, Hamzat Adebola Ayinde; CP Elections, Force Headquarters Abuja, Okuoma Idegwu Basil; CP FCID Enugu, Achinyan Zachary’s Fera;  CP DFA, FCID, Abuja, Baba Zango Ibrahim; CP Admin, FCID Annex Lagos, Mohammed  Isyaku; and  CP Police Special Fraud Unit Annex Lagos, CP Margaret Agebe Ochilla.

Other are: DC Admin, Department of Operations, Force Headquarters, DCP Bassey Samuel Ewah; Osagie John Agans-Irabor attached to

SCID, Benue State Command; DCP Edem Ita Selong, Admin and Finance, Zone 9 Umuahia and DCP Monday Agbonika, Interpol Annex Lagos, who were promoted to the rank of CP.

He listed other DCPs promoted to include: Michael Okoh, Department of Operations,  Zone 9 Umuahia; Ayodele Oluyemi Sonubi, State CID, Oyo State Command; Iyama Daniel Edobor, Operations Department,  Bayelsa State Command; Isa Danladi Nda, SWAT, FCID Abuja; Akaniyene Ifebem Ezima Zonal CID, Zone 17 Akure and Livingston  Ikioye Orutugu, Commandant PMF Training School Ende Hills Jos.

He noted that the list of the promoted officers has been conveyed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for implementation and further necessary action.
