Again, Humanitarian Affairs ministry trains officials on effective service delivery

The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation has disclosed that it was ready to address the challenges facing Nigerians, including vulnerable groups across the country, through implementation of people-oriented policies and programmes.

Speaking Friday in Mararaba, Nasarawa state, during a capacity building workshop organised for Case Management Officers in the Ministry, the permanent secretary, Mr. Abel Olumuyiwa Enitan, who was represented by the deputy director overseeing office of the Director, Social Development Department, Mr. Peter Audu, said the workshop was aimed at “increasing the knowledge, skills, proficiency and competence of participants in the various services rendered to your clients and humanity.”

“It is fundamental to note that professional social case management officers are expected to meet the needs of people in serious difficulties and social problems. These social problems may include family instability, financial distress, drug addiction, and other inevitable events, such as: migration, economic dependency, unemployment, illness and social dis-organisation which are all among the major social factors that impinge upon individuals.

“However, people have to seek help in overcoming the effects of these upon their personal lives in order to find practical solutions.

“Consequently, the essence of regular professional training and retraining of professional case management officers cannot be over emphasised given the fact that they deal with the society’s most vulnerable group, which constitute a sizeable percentage of the populace and by implication have multiplicity of needs,” he said.

Also speaking, the deputy director overseeing the office of Director, Social Development Department, Mr. Peter Audu, who was represented by the assistant director, Family and Case Work, Mrs. Ibrahim Misheli, said the capacity building workshop for case management officers in the Ministry was with “a view to equipping the participants with the necessary knowledge and information that will assist their daily practice.”
