The African Development Bank (AfDB) has disclosed that a revolutionary data management system had been installed and tested in Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) recently.
Disclosing this in its monthly newsletter issued in Abuja, the Bank said the open data portal/platform (ODP) would significantly increase public access to official and other statistics.
“The ODP – as tool for data submission was recently tested by CBN and NBS. They were supported by a joint AfDB and IMF team of experts,” it said.
AfDB maintained that the resultant success of the tests in the agencies, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) was planning to adopt the ODP as a tool for its data submission by all the African countries.
It also stated that the institution would fund the installation of the platform in all the Central Banks of the 54 African countries to enhance their data handling processes.
AfDB also disclosed that it had earlier conducted training in February this year for data dissemination staff of NBS and CBN on the navigational and visualisation functionality of the ODP platform.
It further disclosed that the Bank would be piloting an e-Gov Data Portal Platform in Nigeria in the next few months which would link data portals provided by AfDB in various ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) into one seamless one-stop network.
“This is to facilitate quick access by government officials, the public and other actors to key information for decision making adding that, Nigeria will be one of the first African countries to have this system.”
