AFCON qualifier: Osayi-Samuel in camp as Super Eagles fly to Monrovia June 17

Super Eagles defender, Bright Osayi-Samuel has arrived the Eko Hotel and Suites camp ahead of Sunday’s 2023 AFCON qualifier against Sierra Leone in Monrovia, Liberia with chieftains of Nigeria Football Federation working round the clock to get a chartered flight to take the team to Monrovia on Saturday morning and bring them back immediately after the match on Sunday evening.

Osayi-Samuel’s arrival was announced on the Super Eagles Twitter handle on Wednesday.

This brings the number of Eagles players in camp to 23.

Osayi-Samuel was in action for Fenerbahce who won the Turkish Cup at the weekend.

It is Fenerbahce’s first Cup win since the 2012/13 Turkish football campaign.

Serie A title winner Victor Osimhen joined his teammates on Tuesday and has since taken part in training.

Table-toppers Nigeria, on nine points, will slug it out with the Leone Stars, four points behind and in third place, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Paynesville, Monrovia.

The 22,000 -capacity arena will witness fireworks from 5pm  Nigeria time (4pm Liberia time) as the Super Eagles seek to reach the finals of the 34th Africa Cup of Nations, scheduled for Cote d’Ivoire early next year, with a game to spare.

A win for the Eagles will seal qualification for next year’s AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire.
