AEPB: Tension as police, soldiers clash with FRSC officials

Police and soldiers attached to the Abuja Environmental Protection Agency (AEPB) clashed with the officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) yesterday.
It was gathered that trouble started when officials of the AEPB attempted to seal off the Abuja Command of the FRSC, located at Wuze Zone 7.
The FRSC officials were said to have resisted the attempt and fracas ensued in the melee.
An eyewitness said policemen and soldiers with the AEBP officials allegedly assaulted a female Road Safety marshal which resulted in a confrontation.
The AEPB task force members, however, denied assaulting the Road Safety personnel, saying they were resisted from serving the Road Safety the notice they brought.
However, the Public Education Officer of FRSC, Mr. Bisi Kazeem, when contacted, said the issue had been resolved.
He explained that the incident occurred as a result of a misunderstanding, saying FRSC was summoned by the Board to appear today (Wednesday) but postponed because of the AEPB Court Registrar’s absence.
He said FRSC would honour the Board’s summon tomorrow (Thursday), adding the Corps personnel resisted the attempt to seal off the office because there was no basis for that.
The earlier online report had indicated that during the fight, a soldier was reportedly wounded and a civilian staff of the AEPB was “taken hostage” by the Road Safety marshals.
It was further indicated that soldiers and policemen who were part of the AEPB team seized a Road Safety officer.
Both the AEPB and FRSC have however confirmed that none of their officials was in hostage.
