Adamawa: Scores feared killed as gunmen attack churches, burn houses

Many people were on Monday night feared killed as gunmen, suspected to be Boko Haram members, attacked  Kubla Village of Madagali local government area of Adamawa state and burnt churches and other houses.
Some residents of the affected village who fled the area said they were attacked by gunmen suspected to be Boko Haram members in the night.

“They used explosives during the attack and many people lost their lives,” villagers recounted their ordeal.
“I cannot actually say how many people were kill but I saw about six died bodies being evacuated,” one of the residents who identified himself as Heldia Apogu said.
Another resident claimed that some houses were also attacked by the gunmen who took some men as hostage.
“I saw some people crying saying that their relations had been taken away as hostage by the gunmen,” the resident who preferred anonymity said.

Attempts made to get the military and police authorities to comment on the incident did not yield result.
The Madagali council chairman, Mr James Abawu Watharda, said four people lost their lives during the attack, and that the Army had sealed up the area and were hunting for the fleeing attackers.
“Four people were killed, and two churches including houses were set ablaze by the attackers. As all the villagers have fled away,” said the council chairman.
