Adamawa inaugurates probe panel on Bachama, Numan, Demsa clashes

Adamawa state Governor Muhammadu Jibrilla Bindow, yesterday vowed that perpetrators the recent bloody clash between Bachama and Fulani herdsmen in Numan and Demsa areas of the state “will soon be fished out and dealt with.”
He made the vow while inaugurating a six-man administrative Commission of Inquiry on the crisis, asking the members to recommend appropriate measures against any person (s) or institution involved in the crisis without fair or favour.
Bindow, represented by his deputy, Martins Babale, said: “The government is determined to take all necessary actions to address the situation squarely.
‘’Let me again assure that government is irrevocably committed to ensuring that the report of the commission is faithfully implemented.”
The Commission, which is to submit its reports within six weeks, had terms of reference to include “investigate the immediate and remote causes of the conflict, and ascertain the extent of damages to lives and property lost during the crisis.”
Other terms are “proffer lasting solutions that would sustain peace and harmony in the state, as well as advising government on how curtail future occurrences and measures on rehabilitations and settlement of those affected by the crisis.”
In his acceptance address, Chairman of the Commission, a retired Justice of the Federal High Court, Justice Adamu Hobong (retd.), assured that the Commission would be fair in the discharge of its duty.
“Generally, Justice is blind, with no respecter to anybody, but justice is no longer blind, after taking evidence, the results becomes automatic,” he said.
He urged members of the public to appear to testify before the Commission.
“Public should response by appearing to testify to what they know from their personal knowledge and not what they imagined in their mind or carrying out sentiments in to their testimonies.”
Other members of the commission are Prof. Fati Abubakar, Pastor Dimian Dati, Alhaji Aliyu Ahmed Chiroma and Pius Raymond.
