Acting SGF inaugurates salaries, wages commission board

​Acting Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Dr Habiba Lawal, has inaugurated board of National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission,

The board was inaugurated yesterday at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation in Abuja.

The board, chaired by Chief R. O. Egbule​​ has Mr. Ekpo Nta, Alhaji Dauda Yahaya, Garba Musa Gulma​and Victoria Nnenna Chukwuani as full-time commissioners while Mr. Geoffery Yilleng​​​, Chief E. O. Wole Iro-Aye and Ahmed Mahmud Gumel​ ​would serve as part-time commissioners.

The board also has Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Labour and Employment, Permanent Secretary (Establishment) in the Office of Head of Civil Service of the Federation, Comrade Isa Aremu​​ and Mr. Chuma Nwankwo​​​ as members.

The Acting SGF said the board was inaugurated to enable the commission carry out its mandate in accordance with Section 2 of the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission Act, 2004.

According to her, the Commission is very vital to having a steady polity, especially in view of agitations in the country over salaries and wages in public service and private sectors.

She called on the commissioners and board members to bring their experience to bear on the commission and make it succeed, and urged them to have the interest and the general well-being of the country as topmost priority in the discharge of their official duties.

In his remarks, chairman of the Commission, Chief R. O. Egbule, said the appointees would do their best to move the economy forward, stressing that “this is not the time to expect reward for work done as the government is facing economic challenges.”
