Acquaint yourselves with new scheme of service, Provost urges staff

Provost, Federal College of Education Okene , Dr. Iyela Ajayi, has urged the staff of the institution, especially workers of the registry department to acquaint themselves with the new scheme of service to enable them enjoy their rights and privileges in the college. Ajayi gave the charge at the premises of the institution during a 2- day capacity building workshop/ orientation organised by the college for staff ers of the registry department and other staff of the institution.

Th e Provost, who pointed out that ignorance was not an excuse in law, lamented that many staff of the college did not know their rights and duties, hence the need for the workshop to educate them on “do and don’t” of the college. “Th e aim of this workshop is to develop the knowledge of our staff on how to discharge their duties within the ambit of condition and scheme of service against the old way of doing things.

“In 2016 the National Commission for College of Education (NCCE) promulgated a new condition of service for staff of colleges of education in the country and it behooves on the management of this institution to acquaint the staff , especially, those in the registry department, who are the engine room of the college what they should do at every point in time in order to move the institution forward”, he said. Ajayi, who commended the new Registrar of the college Mr. Peter Ovansa Otohomori for deeming it necessary to reposition the capacity building workshop for staff , described him as “a man, who keeps his eyes on legacy”, adding that he really prepared for the position.

In his address, Otohomori said since assumption of duty as the registrar of the college few months ago , his priority and passionate desire had been to reposition the registry department of the college for optimum performance. “As part of initial strategic steps to identifying and prioritizing the core values of the Registry department with the attendant challenges as critical to its repositioning, I held series of interactive meetings with all the Registry staff . “Th e fi ndings brought to bear by the interactive meetings were both critical and dynamic to repositioning the Registry department of the collage for the next level”, he added.
