Abuja to host Teqball World Championship qualifier

The 2023 National Teqball Championship slated for Kwara state from September 16 to 24, 2023 has been rescheduled for Velodrome, Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja from 21 to 24 September, 2023 after the executive board of the Nigeria Teqball Federation withdrew the hosting right from Kwara State Teqball Association.

The decision to withdraw the hosting right from the association on the eve of the championship became imperative based on evidence of lack of capacity demonstrated by association as a result of the lack of support from the Kwara State Sports Commission by extension as project partners.

In a statement signed by the General Secretary of the Federation Mr. Ndudi Edede on Tuesday September 12, 2023, the secretariat had to intervene to take back the championship in its bid to protect the image and reputation of the Nigeria Teqball Federation, (NIGTEQ) as well as Teqball as the fastest growing sports globally.

The event will serve as the qualifier for the 2023 Teqball World Championship slated to be held in Bangkok, Thailand from November 29 to December 3, 2023.

“Returning the event to Abuja will give our major partners like the Embassy of Hungary in Abuja, the Ministry of Sports Development and Corporate bodies the opportunity to witness the development and progress of Teqball in Nigeria,” he stated.

Mr. Ndudi added, “We hope to improve on our last outing in Asaba, Delta State earlier in the year and the performance of our Athletes during the 2nd African Beach Games in Hamammet, Tunisia”.

Athletes, coaches, and referees are expected to arrive in Abuja on Wednesday September 20, 2023 at the National Institute of Sports (NIS) hostel facilities at Package B of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja.
