Abuja residents raise alarm over approved motor parks in residential estates

Residents of housing estates in Karsana District, Abuja, Monday raised the alarm over establishment and operation of motor parks in between residential estates in the area.

Residents of Mab Global Estate and Queens Estate, who expressed shock over the development, wondered how the Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, who had vowed to fight insecurity in the FCT, could approve the establishment of a motor park in between their residential estates.

When blue reporter visited the area, Monday, the residents expressed fear that the minister’s action will attract kidnappers and other perpetrators of violent crimes to their doorsteps.

They said the approval granted to a private firm to operate a motor park in the area would portray the minister as insincere and insensitive to the security situation in the area.

A landlord in the area, Mr. James Adebayo, recalled how the wife of a permanent secretary was kidnapped and a ransom of N100 million paid to kidnappers in the area in November 2023.

Adebayo, who noted that there are fears that the motor park would attract all manner of criminals to the residential area and  wondered how the FCT administration believed to be battling insecurity would have taken decisions that would worsen the bad security situation in the area.

Blueprint gathered that the purported approval letter dated May 25, 2023, four days before the end of the Buhari administration was signed by Abdullahi Adamu Candido, the Secretary of the Transportation Secretariat.
