Abuja passengers pay highest air fare in Nigeria–NBS

A new report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) has revealed that average fare paid by air passengers for specified routes single journey increased to N32,520.66 in October 2017 from N32,384.40 in September 2017.
This represents a 0.42 per cent month-on-month and 27.61 per cent year-on-year in the month under review.
In its ‘Transport Fare Watch’ report for October 2017, the Bureau noted that Abuja FCT route accounted for the highest amount paid (N45,000.00), while the Jigawa and Edo routes recorded N40,550.00 and N39,500.00 respectively. Katsina, Kogi and Osun accounted for the lowest air fare in October 2017 with N24,000.00, N25,078.57 and N27,500.00 respectively.
The report further said that Cross River (N246.43), Abuja FCT (N235.86) & Ekiti (N202.50) recorded the highest inter-city bus fare in the month while Ogun (N64.55), Borno (N70.00) & Katsina (N68.50) recorded the lowest intraer-city bus journey fare in the month under review.
According to the NBS, it indicated a 2.97 per cent month-on-month and increased by 13.00 percent year-on-year to N1,474.90 in October 2017 from N1,520.12 in September 2017, in average inter-city bus fare by commuters.
Average fare paid by commuters for journey by motorcycle per drop decreased by 4.56% month-on-month and increased by 4.52% year-on-year to N95.50 in October 2017 from N100.06 in September 2017.
States with highest journey fare by motorcycle per drop in October 2017 were Rivers (N170.25), Edo (N160.00) & Bayelsa (N160.40) while states with lowest journey fare by motorcycle per drop in October 2017 were Ekiti (N50.74), Katsina (N51.55) & Niger (N50.11).
Average fare paid by passengers for water way passenger transport decreased by 3.72% month-on-month and 5.40% year-on-year to N582.20 in October 2017 from N604.72 in September 2017.
States with highest fare by water way passenger transport in October 2017 were Bayelsa (N2,000.00), Rivers (N1,750.00) & Delta (N1,425.00) while states with lowest fare by water way passenger transport in October 2017 were Kebbi (N245.00), Gombe (N175.55) & Borno (N150.00).
