A grassroots politician and retired principal of Government College, Umuahia, High Chief Jerry Onyemachi, has dosclosed that he worked hard to ensure the emergence of the Labour Party governorship candidate, Dr Alex Chioma Otti, despite being a staunch member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Chief Onyemachi, also the President General of Ibeku Egwu Asaa Development Association (IEADA) made this declaration in an interview with our correspondent in Umuahia.
He added that before the 2023 governorship election in Abia, it was crystal clear that Abians needed change of political narratives and PDP was blamed for the leadership deficits, hence I joined forces with other progressive Abians yearning for positive change to support the candidate of Labour party, Dr Alex Chioma Otti to emerge victorious.
He said, “I am a straight forward person and a staunch member of Abia PDP, when I watched where the political pendulum of 2023 was titling to, I sort of withdrew and watched, supported the Labour governorship candidate, Dr Alex Chioma Otti to emerge not minding the fact that i am a member of PDP because everybody wanted a change in Abia.”
The traditional prime minister of Eziama and Mgbaja autonomous community Ossah Ibeku pointed out that prior to 2023 governorship election, anybody that has blood flowing in his veins and not water would agree with him that things were not moving well.
To this end, High Chief Jerry Onyemachi regarded as a no- nonsense man maintained that he was still a PDP member but would not hid the fact that he supported Dr Alex Chioma Otti of Labour Party.
The President General of Ibeku Egwu Asaa noted that when Dr Alex Otti eventually won, he changed his name and became “Any Government in Power” (AGIP).
He further said he would continue to support him with the last drop of his blood, adding that the LP governor has started well and should not relent in the good work he was doing to change the ugly narratives of the state.
He noted that Dr Alex Chioma Otti has started off well in assembling highly rated commissioners that would assist him to deliver campaign promises, cleaning of heaps of refuse that hitherto littered streets of Umuahia and Aba.
