Abbas, Kalu mourn Wigwe, wife, son, others

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, and his deputy, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, have expressed deep pains over the death of Group Chief Executive Officer of Access Holdings Plc, and founder of HOW Foundation, Dr Herbert Wigwe and others in a helicopter crash in the United States of America.

Abbas, after receiving an official confirmation of the incident and deaths by the Group Company Secretary, Sunday Ekwochi, Sunday, described it as a huge tragedy to Nigeria as a country  recalling how Wigwe as CEO of Access Bank Plc grew the deposit money bank to a household name in Nigeria and spread across Africa and other continents.

He also said Wigwe’s elevation to GCEO of Access Holdings Plc was an attestation to the entrepreneurial excellence, business acumen and corporate ethics, adding that the deceased has left a huge vacuum in the banking sector and the corporate world.

Also in a statement on Sunday, Deputy Speaker Kalu expressed shock and sadness over the death of Wigwe, his family members and others, saying that Wigwe was a fine gentleman and thorougbred professional who significantly impacted the finance and business climate, noting that Nigeria’s corporate world will greatly miss him.

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the death of Mr. Herbert Wigwe, the Group CEO of Access Bank, alongside his wife and son as well as Abimbola Ogunbanjo, a former Group Chairman of Nigerian Exchange Group, and others in a helicopter crash in the US.

“Wigwe was a visionary who significantly impacted our nation’s banking sector. His death is indeed a tragic loss to our finance industry. My sincere prayers are with his family, friends, and loved ones in this difficult time,” he said.
