Abaji council chair cancels contract variation

The chairman of Abaji area council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Alhaji Abubakar Umar Abdullahi, has said his administration “does not believe in contract variation for any of its projects.”

The chairman said this Friday during the Council’s Tender and Bid opening for the year 2024 budget appropriation at the Council conference hall in Abaji.

Speaking further, he assured the bidders that the Council would be fair and just to each and every contractor.

Abdullahi, who is also the national chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), said he “does not award any contract without cash backing,” stressing that contractors should be rest assured of payment after successfully completing their projects.

He noted that his administration’s non-belief in contract variation “is now more guided by the issue of tumbling exchange rates.”

He told the contractors that they should not come back to tell the area council that the Dollar had risen from N1, 000 to N2, 000, “because the Council will not be responsible for that.”

Some of the bidders and observers who spoke to newsmen described the exercise as “transparent.”

“Before the commencement of the tender opening proper, the head of information unit of the Council, Mohammed Sanni Yusuf, gave a briefing on the modalities for giving priority to merit.

“The bidding and tendering is a process by which a business or organisation invites third-party contractors to bid for a project through a document called tender. Once an invitation to bid has been tendered, businesses can submit a proposal in response, indicating their interest in any project,” he said.
