A/Ibom pensioners want state pension commission

The Nigeria Union of Pensioners in Akwa Ibom has called on the Emmanuel Udom-led government to create Akwa Ibom State Pension Commission with a view to superintending on their challenges.

State chairman of the union, Obong E. D. Ekpo made this known during the South-south zonal meeting held on Wednesday in Uyo.

Addressing the organisation, Ekpo said the creation of this commission or board would afford all pensioners the opportunity to know where they could channel their various problems.

He said it would as well bring forth a platform whereby individual problem could be discussed and handled with urgency.

The union state chairman further noted that creation of the commission would equally save government the embarrassment she often receives for numerous mis-information.

“The non-implementation of all the increases is not that government has no money to pay but no will to do so, simply because there is no specific entity to cater for the welfare of pensioners in Akwa Ibom state.

“It is on this ground that we vehemently appeal to Akwa Ibom state government to create Akwa Ibom State Pension Commission or Board for all the pensioners in the state”, he said

The union suggested that the Commission if created shall have 5 departments including; Department of Civil Pensioners, Dept. of Local Govt. Pensioners, Dept. of Retired Primary School Teachers, Dept. of Parastatal Pensioners, and Dept. of Contributory Pensioners.
