6 hospitalised in Jigawa over herders, farmers’ clash

No fewer than six people were seriously injured as a result of fracas between the Fulani herders and farmers in Babura local government area of Jigawa state last Tuesday afternoon

Sources said the Fulani herders invaded the farms in the area where they took their animals for grazing, with the cattle eating and destroying crops worth thousands of naira, a case which did not go down well with the farmers

Th e source added the farmers shouted on the breeders and directed them to quit their farm but the Fulalni were said to remain adamant, as the nomads believed to have invaded from the neighbouring Niger Republic, armed with dangerous weapons, descended on the farmers, shooting sporadically and injuring the six persons in the process

According to an eye witness, the victims were taken to Babura general hospital in the pool of their blood where they were being treated

When contacted, the Jigawa state Police Command Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Dsp Abdul Jijiri, confirmed the incident but revealed that only three farmers were injured and that they were being attended to in the hospital
