Five crew members onboard a cargo plane operated by Allied Air Cargo were safely evacuated by emergency response team of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) when the aircraft skidded the runway of Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja Wednesday morning.
The director for Public Affairs and Consumer Protection of FAAN, Mrs. Obiageli Orah, stated that the beleaguered aircraft with registration mark : 5N- JRT, forced the airport authority to temporarily close the runway.
She said though there was no injury to the persons on board the cargo plane, they were all safely evacuated and taken to FAAN clinic for further medical check.
An electronic statement said: “The runway is being cleared and it is expected to be re -opened for operations as soon as possible.
“The airport emergency response team is on the scene along with accident investigators. We would like to thank the aviation community and the public for their understanding and patience.
“We also request that all speculations be put on hold until the preliminary report is released by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
