5 Boko Haram members surrender in Borno

Five Boko Haram members have voluntarily surrendered themselves to the Nigerian Army at Benishiekh in Kaga local government area of Borno state. Th ey also told the military that their wives and children were in Auno village located about 20 kilometres away from Maiduguri town.

Th e military requested the surrendered Boko Haram members to lead soldiers to their families, after submitting themselves willingly. In another development, two persons have been confi rmed dead and three other persons sustained injuries when suspected Boko Haram terrorists ambushed troops on Damaturu, Biu road yesterday.

Security sources said the suspected Boko Haram insurgents had buried IEDs on the highway before the attack as when the troops’ vehicle wanted to escape, the vehicle strolled onto a buried IED and exploded. Th e sources added that the troops, who took off from Damaturu on their way to Biu, were ambushed at about 60 kilometres to Biu where the insurgents opened fi re indiscriminately on the troops and in an attempt to escape, the IEDs blew off killing two persons on the spot, while three other people were injured and rushed to the Damaturu Specialists’ Hospital by thesecurity forces on patrol on the road. According to a hospital source, at the Accident and Emergency ward OPD of the Damaturu Specialist Hospital, the three people were treated and referred to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe, on their relative request. It would be recalled that the attack had further added fear to travellers or motorists on the road as the attack was said to be the fourth in two weeks.
