Suspected hoodlums on Saturday completely set ablaze the a Police Patrol Van and vandalized some parts Elete out station on new Oyo-Ogbomoso Expressway in Oyo state.

According to a statement by the Oyo state Police command, 5 male suspects have been arrested alongside 2 two unregistered DAF and Volvo trucks taken as exhibits.

The command in the statement made available to newsmen late Saturday by its Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Adewale Osifeso for the Oyo state Commissioner of Police, CP Adebola Hamzat said “no weapon was carted away nor any life lost” during the attack.

It stressed that during the attack, the hoodlums were resisted from breaking into the Out-station by overwhelming support garnered from men on confidence building patrols from nearby Police Divisions, including the Area Command.

Oyo State Police Command noted that its ” preliminary investigation reveals that the suspected hoodlums after realizing they had been held up in the gridlock for a while, charged in their numbers towards the nearby Elete Out-Station over the perceived failure of the Police to rid the traffic, completely setting ablaze the Out-Station’s recently refurbished Patrol Van and vandalizing some parts of the building”.

The Command however vowed to
resist any kind of dehumanization on its personnel or attack on its facilities by sinister-minded individuals or groups, adding that the case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Iyaganku to unravel other underlying sinister motives besides the suspect’s acclaimed “triggering gridlock issue” .

Also, the command maintained that the “suspects will be charged to court upon the completion of the ongoing investigation inquiry”.
