407 alumni for ABU Annual General Assembly next month

Over 400 alumni from within and outside Nigeria are expected to attend the 12th Annual General Assembly (AGA) of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Alumni Association scheduled for August 19, this year. National President of the ABU Alumni Association and National Chairman, Conference of Alumni Associations of Nigerian Universities, Prof. Ahmed Tijjani Mora, disclosed this at the weekend while briefi ng newsmen in Kaduna. “Th e 12th AGA will take place on Saturday, August 19, 2017, at the Senate Chambers, ABU main campus, Samaru, Zaria. Th e AGA is the highest organ of the Association and is attended by 10 delegates from each of the 36 states, the FCT and Zaria branches as well as two from each of the 13 facultybased chapters of the university.” Th e national president added that, only a delegate will represent an overseas branch noting that, AGA Lecture, which normally takes place a day earlier, is to be delivered by former minister of environment, and Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations, Hajiya Amina Mohammed, on Friday, August 18, 2017.

“Th e Association is fi nalising arrangements for Hajiya Amina Mohammed, the Deputy Secretary General (DSG) of the United Nations, to deliver the lecture in the Assembly Hall, main campus at 3pm. “Dr. Mohammed Sanusi Barkindo, a distinguished Alumnus and Executive Secretary, Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), Vienna, Austria, is expected to chair the lecture, which is a major event annually along with the AGA. “Last year, at the 11th AGA, Malam Mohammed Hayatudeen, the founder and Vice Chairman of Alpine Group Ltd. Lagos, and a distinguished alumnus delivered a very thought promoting lecture which was chaired by Alhaji Mahmud Yayale Ahmed (Ajiyan Katagum), a distinguished Alumnus who represented former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, a distinguished alumnus of the university too.

“All the 11 Governors that are alumni members of the great University as well as the FCT Minister, also an alumnus have been invited as Guests of Honours with the host Governor of Kaduna state as the Special Guest of Honour. Other Governors in the North and the eight ministers that are graduates of the University were also invited as Special Guests. “Th e Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of ABU Governing Council, AVM (retd) Moukhtar Mohammed (Wazirin Dutse) and the Chancellor, HRM Igwe (Dr) Nnaemeka Alfred Ugochukwu Achebe, the Abogidi Obi of Onitsha, will all be in attendance. Th e Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ibrahim Garba, is the Chief Host.”
