Jigawa state, in partnership with the federal government, is to distribute 20,960 goats to 40 women in each of the 484 wards of the state with a view to growing their businesses.
This was made known by the All Progressives Congress (APC) state Women leader, Hajiya Bita Shai’bu Farin Dutse, during her tour of the 27 local councils in the state.
Addressing women in Gwiwa town, headquarters of Gwiwa local government area, yesterday, Farin Dutse said it the gesture was loan without neither collateral nor interest, but with compulsory pay-back system, to enable others to benefi t.
According to her, the loan was a federal government programme, explaining that Governor Muhammad Badaru Abubakar has already procured the goats and were ready for distribution to the benefi ciaries to avoid unnecessary bureaucracy.
She stated further that the state government had earlier distributed goats on loan to 30 women from each of the political wards of the state but now expanded it to 40 per ward.
The women leader, therefore, directed all the local governments to submit the lists of the benefi ciaries to her office for the take off of the scheme and lamented that lack of account and BVN numbers were responsible for women in the state losing the good gesture of the federal government and urged the rural women to open banks accounts to be able to access the loan.
She directed each of theselected 40 women to open bank accounts for them to benefi t from the federal government’s gesture, adding that local government councils should also forward the list of 30 stakeholders from each ward to her office
