4 cops nabbed for shooting 3 persons in Delta

Delta state police command yesterday arrested four police officers for shooting three innocent persons in Warri.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr. Zanna Ibrahim, who gave the directive for the arrest and investigation into the matter, said the policemen shot three persons during child dedication ceremony in Warri.

The three police officers who were arrested for professional misconduct and murder are Insp. Samuel Imana, Insp. Anthony Nwali, Sgt. Anthony Oniri, and Cpl Innocent Ajah.

He said: “On 17/9/2017, at about 1840hrs, Insp. Samuel Imana, Insp. Anthony Nwali, Sgt. Anthony Oniri and Cpl Innocent Ajah, attached to the Area Commander’s office, Warri, during a child dedication ceremony at Edjewo, by Poloko market, Warri, were alleged to have engaged in shooting which resulted in the death of one Elvis Ovie and injury to two others.”

Zanna said he was miffed at the apparently reckless and unwarranted shooting by the police officers.

He, however, vowed that appropriate sanctions would be meted to the erring officers after investigation is concluded.

The CP, while reiterating that the Command will not condone any act of impunity by his officers and men, expressed condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and the injured and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
