4 collapsed bridges cut off Wukari-Jalingo highway

Heavy duty vehicles have been trapped in Jalingo, the Taraba state capital as the Wukari, Jalingo federal government Trunk A access road is no longer passable.
Blueprint learnt that rain has washed away four bridges on the road, making it impossible for commuters using heavy duty vehicles to ply the road.
The collapsed bridges are located in Bimba, Gongola, Namnai and Bampatel.
When Blueprint visited the scene of the bridges, it was learnt that, apart from the heavy traffic congestion inside the road, the vehicles traveling to the south were left stranded beside the Gongola bridge while those from the southern part of the country were also trapped beside the Bimba bridge.
Wukari Jalingo road is a trunk A road linking the southern part of the country with the north eastern part, as dominant users of the road are petty traders.
Speaking with Blueprint on the frustration suffered on the road, Abdulahi Tikon the driver of the truck with registration number XB 552 Yla blamed their misfortune on the carelessness of leaders.
According to him, the washing away of the bridges did not start in one day but both state and federal authorities did not bother about the condition of the road.
The truck driver said those who benefit most from the road were Taraba people and that there was no need waiting for the federal government.
When Blueprint visited the Jalingo office of the federal government road maintenance agency, those met on ground said their director travelled out of town and could therefore not talk to the media.
