324 youth to receive N-HYPPADEC business starter packs in Plateau

The Managing Director, National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Commission (N-HYPPADEC), Alhaji Abubakar Yelwa, has admonished Nigerian youth on the need to key into commission’s empowerment programme so as to be self employed.

The MD gave the admonishment Thursday at a stakeholders engagement on how best get commission would go about the disbursement of starter packs to the trained youth in various skills and business endeavours in Jos North Local Area of Plateau state.

Alhaji Yelwa said the commission has trained beneficiaries for the 2022/2023, Youth Transformation Programme, which starter packs would soon be disbursed to each of them.

Represented by the commission’s assistant director research and planning in the state office, Mr. Pam Jidauna, the MD said they would present customized starter packs based on the area of interest of the youths that were already trained.

“We wouldn’t want a situation where the starter packs will be given and decides to do away with it. Our aim and objectives is for them to be self employed and also be employers of labour, for the development of Plateau State and Nigeria,” he said.

The Plateau state, N-HYPPADEC coordinator, Alhaji Abubakar S. Tanko, said they have received complaints from the trainers of the youth, that on the cause of the training, some of the youth didn’t paid attention, rather were only interested at collecting training stipends meant for their transportation,  by the commission.

“The commission is feeling that…some of the youth may not actually utilise the starter packs that is about to be given to them, for them to commenced tye various trades they’ve learnt, but would rather sales them. That is why we are here to…strategies with the community leaders, parents and other stakeholders, so that we can see how some of the bad intentions of the youth may be stopped, so that items are actually utilise for the purpose in which they are meant for,” he said.

On his part, the State Commissioner of Sports and Youth development, Hon. Bashir Datti, said N-HYPPADEC, intervention is a well come development for the progress of Plateau Youths.

“We have 324 youths that were trained by the commission for the 2022/2023, but due to some reasons they could not give them the starter packs, but this time they deemed it necessary to give our youths the starter packs.

“I want to say, well done to the MD of N-HYPPADEC and the President as a whole for this intervention. I am assuring the commission that our youths are not lazy, and would utilise the starter packs the way it should,” Datti said.
