300 women get SOGON’s medical services in Sokoto

Chief Medical Director, Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH) Sokoto, Dr. Yakubu Ahmed, has disclosed that 200 women have been treated for different health challenges free of charge by the Society of Gynaecology and Obstetrics of Nigeria (SOGON) at its ongoing medical outreach, conducted at the different centres in the state.
Dr Yakubu, who disclosed this at a pre-conference of the medical outreach, said the Society was targeting 300 women, adding that the medical outreach was being conducted as part of the activities to mark the 51st SOGON annual conference.
He said that 10 major and 5 minor surgeries have been conducted, while 100 women had been screened for cervical cancer, adding that 25 VVF cases were also treated during the 3 day medical outreach.
According to him, the conference is an annual event and intended to discuss issues of maternal and new born health in the challenging economy, family planning among others.
Yakubu said the 50 year old Society, has through its conferences, been providing solutions to complicated gynaecology and other related cases and seeking to reduce maternal mortality rate.
