3 nabbed for street fighting over a woman

Three men, Yusuf Rafiu, 26; Stanley John, 29; and Gafar Raimi, 21, have been arrested by the police in Lagos state for fighting in the public over a woman.

They accused who were arraigned before a Badagry Magistrates’ Court, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges disorderly act and disturbing the public peace.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Innocent Uko, the accused committed the offence at 3.00 p.m. on February 9, 2014, at Magodo area of Badagry.

He told the court that the accused engaged in fisticuffs following a disagreement over a girlfriend, pointing out that their conduct contravened Section 54 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.
Counsel to the accused, Mr. Alex Tijani, urged the court to grant the trio bail, describing the offence as bailable.

He said disagreement over girls was commonplace among youths.
In his ruling, the Magistrate, Abiodun Etti, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50, 000 each with a surety each in like sum.
He said the sureties must show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government as part of the bail conditions.
Further hearing has been adjourned to March 18.
