3 hotel staff docked for battering PHCN staff

Three hotel workers have appeared before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos over alleged battering of an electricity company employee and a police officer.

The accused: Sylvester, 34; Rose Sylvester, 30; and Mercy Sunday, 30; are standing trial on a two-count charge of battery and obstruction.
Mr. Kabiru Adebayo was allegedly battered while trying to disconnect power supply to the hotel.

According to the prosecutor, Corporal Bosede Adegeshin, the trio battered Adebayo while performing his lawful duty, as well as two police officers: Inspectors Lydia Ojo and Saidat Okanlawon, when they tried to intervene.
Adegeshin said the offences were committed on February 24, 2014, at Jibson Hotel at Odokekere, Odonguyan in Ikorodu and contravened Sections 171 and 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty, and were granted bail in the sum of N50,000 and two sureties in like sum.
The Magistrate, Mrs. A.S Odusanya, adjourned the case to March13 for mention.
