COVID-19: YES Project unveils ‘Me2You’ community support for vulnerable Nigerians

As the coronavirus pandemic spreads across the country, YES Project, a Non-governmental Organisation (NGO) has rolled out Me2You Community Support Project aimed at alleviating the negative socio-economic impact of the disease amongst the vulnerable in the society.

Speaking to journalist at launch of the initiative, the chairman YES Project, Mohammed Danjuma, said that the essence of the initiative is to fight the spread of the corona virus by supporting the weak among us to cope with the resultant economic hardship associated with social distancing and the lockdown imposed by the government.

He said the initiate is a support program for 1000 young individuals consisting 600 households and 400 individuals (half of which must be women) with N6,000 and N4000 COVID19 cash support respectively.

According to him, the program will select 20 beneficiaries daily (10 households, 5 single young men and 5 single ladies) over the next 50 days.

“While the Government is doing what it can, we must also come together collectively as our brothers’ keepers to fight the spread of the corona virus by supporting the weak among us to cope with the resultant economic hardship associated with social distancing and the lock down sit at home regime,” he said.

On eligibility, Danjuma explained that a young parent with a child or more who earns below N1,000 daily, individual who earns below N1,000 daily, those who have been out of a job as a result of the COVID 19 pandemic and or parent who have run completely out of food to survive another two weeks of the lockdown and have no means to get money elsewhere are the target.

On how to participate in the community support , Danjuma explained that a short video of not more than 1 minute communicating your eligibility for the support by saying  who you are,  how the COVID 19 pandemic affected you?  What are you doing to protect yourself and others? Would be used be used as criteria.

“Send the video as a message to YES Facebook page with the tittle Me 2 You Community Support Project stating; your first and last name, Number is children for families, your age, your occupation and state of residence.

“Submission would be vetted by our panel of Judges and based on daily quota and the eligibility, those with compelling stories would be selected to receive the support directly from donors.

“Only those who are selected and the evidence of payment would be published on the YES Facebook page for privacy reasons,” he said.
