27 teams compete for Anambra maiden Super 8 tournament

At least 27 teams from Anambra state have indicated interest to compete in the state Super 8 tournament kicking off from February 1, 2021.

According to Chairman of the Super 8 tournament committee, Prince Oliver Ndigwe, the tournament sponsored by Aspire FC Adazi, has 13 teams drawn from the Anambra Central senatorial district, eight from the north and six from the South senatorial zones respectively.

“27 teams have already registered. They are to play at zona level. From there we shall get two qualifiers to represent each zone at the championship. The winning club shall go home with N500,000; while the second and third positions shall receive N400,000 and N200,000 respectively,” he said.

He said the tournament was one of the Anambra state Football Association (ANSFA) project aimed at discovering, nurturing and developing talented footballers from the grassroots.

On her part, the Brand Manager, Aspire FC Adazi, Miss Chidinma Ezeaso, said the club chose to sponsor the project due to their love and passion to unearth, develop and market grassroots talents to become world champions.

Ezeaso, who urged youth and other football talents to avail themselves of the opportunity, enthused that “This is going to be continued. We want to ensure that all clubs in Anambra state thrive. We want to discover and develop unknown talents living at the grassroots and sponsor them to become international champions. This will also help to reduce unemployment and social vices.”
