The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Mr Mohammed Adamu Thursday disclosed that 25,000 men and officers of Nigeria Police Force will be deployed to Kogi state to provide adequate security for the November 16 governorship election in the state.
Adamu, who disclosed this during a stakeholders meeting with the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) , said the police has no option than to provide a level playing ground for all the participating political parties during the election.
The IGP, who was represented at the occasion by the DIG Operation, Abdulmalik Ali, lamented that intelligent gathering has revealed that some politicians in the state were recruiting, training and arming individuals to cause mayhem during the election, assuring that the police will deal decisively with whoever caught indulging in such activity.
“We will deal with anybody who tries to hamper the integrity of the governorship election and such information should be at the imagination of whoever is planning such act as we are very ready to ensure the election is conducted under a very peaceful atmosphere.
“For us to provide adequate security of during election, the people of the state should obey all the rules and regulation of INEC concerning elections”, he said
