Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mohammed Abubakar, has ordered the release of the promotion of 24,118 officers.
A press statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Mr. Frank Mba, said that the exercise marked promotion of the highest number of police officers, cutting across different ranks, in one fell swoop, in the history of the Force.
The affected officers include: One Commissioner of Police (CP) to Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG); six Deputy CPs (DCP) to CP; seven Assistant CPs (ACP) to DCPs, and seven Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to ACPs.
Similarly, 242 Superintendents of Police (SPs) were promoted to the rank CSP; 424 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP) were promoted to SPs, 715 Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP to Deputy Superintendents of Police, 5,115 Inspectors to ASP; 55 Senior Inspectors to Principal Inspectors.
Also 525 inspectors were promoted to Senior Inspectors, 2,671 Sergeants to Inspectors, 2,876 Corporals to Sergeants, and 11,474 Constables to Corporals.
While congratulating the newly promoted officers, the IGP charged them to see their elevation as a mark of additional responsibility and a call to rededicate themselves to their professional callings.
