24 Assembly members-elect get certificate

The Independent National Electoral commission (INEC) on Thursday issued certificate of return to the 24 newly elected Ebonyi state House of Assembly (EBHA)members out of  which nine are new member.


Presenting the documents to them the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner professor Godswill Obioma noted the certificate was the only thing that proves their statues as elected Assembly members.He however boosted that March 9th elections in Ebonyi state was the most peaceful elections conducted in the country.


He said,”On the 9th of march 2019 history was made in Ebonyi, we were judged to have conducted the best election in Ebonyi,it was peaceful to compare with the presidential and other elections in the state. No life was lost.


“What we have come here to do is to witness one of the electoral process that is called democracy, if you don’t receive your certificate of return you wouldn’t be recognized that you are elected.

Obioma also encouraged the Assembly members elect to effect proper legislative processes in the state.”Today we are looking at the legislatures one of the arms of the government who make laws,we believe that with  Ebonyi state they will now be up to some level that will be better,we know that that particular move will emanate from government programs and the state arms of government.

In his response the speaker of Ebonyi state House of Assembly and member elect to represent Izzi west constituency, Rt honourable Francis Nwifuru commended INEC for organizing free and fair elections in Ebonyi state, and promised effective legislative processes by the members.


“I want to thank INEC for conducting the most credible and most free and fair elections in Ebonyi state.” We want to assure you that we are going to work together with  candidates of other political parties that contested with us to the extent that 95 percent of  them will not take us to court. But our interest is to represent our constituency’s in the legislative arm of the government” he said.


One of the fresh elected members and a former coordinator of Ezeukwa Development Center,Mr Chukwuma Odii who spoke to Blueprint commended INEC and people of his constituency for the peaceful elections and promised quality representative for his people.
