The government of the Republic of Congo and the Democratic Republic of Congo are preparing a joint bid for the 2029 African Cup of Nations.
In a statement, Didier Budimbu, Minister of Sports of the DRC, confirmed the intention of his government, in partnership with that of Congo-Brazzaville, to submit a joint bid to host this prestigious continental competition.
“With my counterpart from Congo-Brazzaville, we are determined to be able to organize the 2029 AFCON together”, he said.
He particularly highlighted a geographical specificity that could appeal to CAF, Kinshasa and Brazzaville, located on either side of the Congo River, are the two closest capitals in the world.
