2027 and likely presidential candidates

The politics of 2027 will be full of intrigues, shenanigans, permutations and a straight fight between the incumbent President Bola Tinubu and known faces in the presidential race such as the serial presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar, Peter Obi, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and others who may emerge on the various political platforms.

No doubt, there will be alignments of some political parties in order to give the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, a run for its money in 2027. Talks are currently underway by some political actors in their quest to form a formidable opposition to the APC and President Tinubu so as to end the reign of the present administration.

The parties are set to revamp their political fortunes ahead of the 2027 election. They’re also rebuilding and redirecting the internal politics of their parties because the fortune of the parties have dwindled in large part because internal politics lost its way especially in the Peoples Democratic party.

Arguably, the most exciting thing for the political parties is how the presidential candidates will emerge to fly the flag of each political party in the 2027.

The APC, from all indications, has no candidate for the 2027 election other than the current President Tinubu. The PDP, from the look of things, is going to settle for a candidate for the 2027 election from among its present governors. The challenges of the party are how to assuage the South-south who are clamouring for the party’s presidential slot.

If that is done, the incumbent landlord of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, will be the candidate based on his defence by the PDP acting National Chairman, Ambassador Illiya Damagun, on the call for the party to sanction the FCT minister. Damagun said, “If we sanction him and he moves to the APC, what have we gained? Also, some of those saying’sanction him’, what have they brought to the table from the states?” The party can settle for a northern governor as running mate for the election.

The coalition party, if all goes well with the talks about merger with some elements of the PDP and other political parties, will settle for Atiku Abubakar, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election. In fact, the coalition party may pick Peter Obi as the running mate to Atiku Abubakar, for the 2027 election.

All this will be possible if the parties involved and the political gladiators muster the courage and the ability to sst aside their political differences as well as forge a common understanding to be one formidable political party, that is desirous of capturing power.

The New Nigeria People’s Party, NNPP,  will settle for Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 election. This is strategic for the party because Kano state has the highest number of votes in the North. The party may settle for a South-west running mate.

The 2027 election will be an interesting experience considering the attention and emotions attached to political matters in the 2023 general elections.
