2024 National anti-corruption marathon cancelled

Organisers of the 2024 National Anti-Corruption Marathon Race has disclosed that  this year’s edition will no longer hold.

The National Coordinator of the Race, Jacob Onu, announced the final cancellation on Thursday in Abuja.

“The general public is hereby notified that the 2024 National Anti-Corruption Marathon Race scheduled for December 21st will no longer hold. We, the Main Organising Committee, MOC, in conjunction with our partners look forward to the 2025 edition.

“For every inconvenience, kindly bear with us, we sincerely regret any inconvenience,” Onu said in the press statement made available to Blueprint correspondent.

Over 3,000 athletes have signified their intention to participate in this year’s marathon with One million naira as the star prize for both male and female categories while the runners-up will get N700,000 and N500,000 respectively.

The National Anti-Corruption Marathon is one of the road running events in Nigeria whose course has been certified and accredited by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN).

The 21.5 km half marathon is in its 5th edition was initially scheduled for December 5th but moved to 21st before the final outright cancellation.

The marathon started since 2018 and did not hold in 2019 due to the Covid-19 epidemic.

Adamu Muazu Shehu and Rose Akusho from Plateau State won men’s and women’s categories of the last edition of the race in Abuja.
