2023 AFCON qualifier: Osimhen, 22 players train for Sierra Leone

Nigeria international, Victor Osimhen, has landed in Super Eagles camp in Lagos preparatory to the 2023 AFCON Qualifier against Leone Stars of Sierra Leone.

The Napoli of Italy goal banger’s arrival takes the numbers of players in camp to 22.

With the arrival of Osimhen, the only exception now is Fenerbahce defender Bright Osayi-Samuel who is expected to arrive camp latest on Wednesday June 14, 2023.

Osayi-Samuel helped Fenerbahce win the Turkish Cup at the weekend, their first since 2013.

After scoring 36 goals in all competitions for the Italian champions, Osimhen who has five strikes in the AFCON qualifying is expected to spearhead Nigeria’s attack against Sierra Leone.

Coach Jose Paseiro and his wards begin training Monday evening at  the astro turf of the Mobolaji Johnson Arena Onikan Lagos though Divine Nwachukwu and Ebube Duru did not take part in the session after they featured in the NPL Super Six playoffs which ended in Lagos on Sunday evening.

Same artificial surface awaits Nigeria and Sierra Leone will play on artificial surface when both nations clash in Monrovia, Liberia on Sunday evening.


22 players in camp: Osimhen, Zaidu, Musa, Ekong, Lookman, Aribo, Iwobi, Bassey, Ajayi, Akpoguma, Omeruo, Ndidi, Iheanacho, Awoniyi, Simon, Adeleye, Sochima, Ojo, Duru, Samuel, Divine, Onyeka.
