2019: Kwankwaso kickstarts presidential campaign, may abandon APC

Former governor of Kano state and Senator representing Kano central, Engr Musa Kwankwaso, has started going round the country in preparations to re-contest presidential primaries of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2019 general elections.

Blueprint gathered exclusively on monday that the former Kano governor has earlier visited Delta state to put structure in place and he has concluded plans to visit Edo state this week Thursday.

Recall that Senator Kwankwaso contested and came second behind President Muhammadu Buhari in 2014 APC Presidential primary held in Lagos.

A competent source and senior member of the ruling party confided in Blueprint in Abuja that Kwankwaso’s 2019 presidential ambition has “reached an unstoppable stage,” adding that for the past one month “he has been receiving at least ten groups daily within and outside the ruling party.”

The source who was a prominent member of Kwankwaso’s campaign team in 2014, revealed further that the choice of South-south to kick-start his presidential campaign was part of plans to established strong structures comparing to that of the north “where he is a strong force.”

“For now, it is kitchen campaign to quickly break established structures in the South. We know that we are enjoying massive support in the North but we need to break structures put in places by the likes of Asiwaju Tinubu and other forces in the South,” the source confirmed.

Continued: “It is no more a hidden agenda that our Principal (Kwankwaso) must contest the 2019 presidential election, whether with APC or not. Nigerians are yearning for him. This man has been meeting with not less than ten political groups daily for the past one month and more are still begging to meet him.”

Blueprint, however, gathered that Kwankwaso’s supporters across Edo state are mobilising massively to give him a rousing welcome at the Benin Airport, even as they are planning to dress in red cap on white dresses.
