2018 Literary Prizes: ANA calls for entries

The Association of Nigerian Authors, ANA, has called for entries into the 2018 literary prizes for works of Poetry, Prose Fiction, Drama and ANA/NECO Teen Authors Prize for Prose.

In a recent statement signed by the association’s General Secretary, Dr. Ofonime Inyang, other prizes include ANA/Abubakar Gimba Prize for published fictitious short Stories collection, ANA/Maria Ajima Prize for Literary Criticism, focusing on criticism of emergent Nigerian Literature.

According to the statement, there is also ANA Prize for published Children’s Literature of 7-13 years age range, which is open to all categories of authors.

“Nigerian writers, desirous of entering their published works, between 2017 and 2018, for the Annual Literary Prizes can enter with an entry fee of N3,000 for each category, except for Teen Authors Prize entry which is free. The fee is to be paid by the author or his publisher in favour of the Association’s Zenith Bank account.

“Six copies (6) of the book or manuscript to be entered, specifying the Prize being entered for, alongside a covering letter, and the photocopy of the Deposit Slip used should be sent by post to: The General Secretary, Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), KM 2, Mamman Vatsa Writers’ Village, Mpape, Abuja Or PMB 18485, Area 10 Garki, Abuja.

“The covering letter should contain accurate contact details of the writer or/and publisher of the work, including email and surface mail addresses and telephone numbers.” He added.

On the closing date for entries and the winning prizes announcement, Dr Inyang said, “Deadline for the receipt of ALL entries is Friday, May 25th, 2018… A shortlist will be announced in September, 2018.

“Winners of the prizes will be announced by the judges at the Awards Dinner during the 37th International Annual Convention of the Association of Nigerian Authors in October, 2018.”

The winning entry in the categories will be given the sum of N100,000, except ANA/Abubakar Gimba Prize for Fiction which will be rewarded with the N200,00 cash prize.
