Kano state Governor, Dr. Rabiu Musa Kawankaso, his political associates and friends would today storm Abuja for the official presidential.
The event, billed for 10 a.m., will take place at the Old Parade Ground in Area 10, Garki, Abuja.
At the time of this report, the commercial city of Kano was virtually empty as civil servants, businessmen, students, market women, and political bigwigs from the city had moved or were moving in their thousands to Abuja to witness Kwankwaso’s declaration to run for president on the ticket of the APC.
Recently, in a chat with reporters in Kano, the governor vowed to continue with his presidential project, insisting that he would not withdraw for General Muhammadu Buhari, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar or anybody for that matter.
Kwankwaso, a water engineer, former deputy speaker of the House of Representatives, a two-time governor of Kano state, also served as Minister of Defence, Nigeria’s Special envoy to Sudan and was a member of the NDDC’s board of directors.
He had run for elective office 12 times and lost only once — the 2003 governorship election in Kano in which as incumbent governor he was defeated by Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, the present Minister of Education.
His Director of Press and Public Relations, Malam Baba Halilu Dantiye, told Blueprint that based on the responses they had been receiving from well-wishers, Kwankwaso would emerge as the next president of Nigeria.
“He is young, very articulate, well exposed and courageous,” Dantiye said.
Chairman of Fagge local government area of Kano state, Alhaji Habibu Saleh Mailemu, also a member of Kwankwaso’s presidential consultation team, told our correspondent that Kwankwaso would surprise Nigerians today.
“People will see a crowd that they have never seen of recent, because the governor has done his home work very well,” he said.
