Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has said that its Kernel Unit is to speed up with the training of sniffer dogs and dog handlers for effective deployment for the 2015 general elections.
The Corps in a statement issued by the its spokesman, Mr. Emmanuel Okeh, yesterday in Abuja, said the sniffer dogs would be deployed to all strategic places, including the borders and areas that could serve as exit routes for mischief makers during the elections.
According to the statement, an Assistant Commandant General in charge of Private Guards Company, Dr Nnamdi Nwinyi, gave the directive on behalf of the CG.
Nwinyi said the training was in line with the present security challenges confronting the nation, adding that it had become a thing of concern to every citizen and peace-loving persons.
He said: “Therefore, it is a project for all and sundry to effectively police the nation and protect the citizenry. The battle at hand cannot be left alone for the government and agencies to tackle; rather it should be seen as the collective responsibility of everyone.
Security personnel are not magicians; therefore, for the challenges to be brought to bear, the populace should learn to pass adequate information across to the security agencies to work on.
“We are faced with a lot of challenges in this era and based on the critical nature of the society, every piece of information counts and as a matter of fact success can only be recorded if everyone is security conscious, sensitive to issues and embrace an aggressive information drive about the happenings within their environment.”
