201 new security personnel a boost for airports safety, others, FAAN MD

A set of newly-recruited 201 Aviation Security Cadets will boost and serve as part of responses to the 21st century challenges of airports and passenger management initiatives, the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku has said.

Speaking at the passing out parade ceremony held for the newly-recruited Aviation Security Cadets at the Digital Bridge Institute, Lagos on Tuesday, Mrs. Kuku said the STP 123 Course is a residential training programme with duration of eight (8) weeks designed to help integrate the new Cadets into the Civil Aviation Industry to implement, monitor and enforce Aviation Security measures proactively in accordance with locally approved regulations.

She affirmed that the training was one of the steps being taken by the agency to ensure total safety at the airports.

“This ceremony not only marks a significant milestone in your careers but also in the journey of FAAN towards bolstering the nation’s aviation security. It is also one of our strategic responses to the increase in volume of passengers using our airports.” she told the graduands.

Mrs. Kuku charged them to put to good use all they have learnt during the training program, urging them to embody the highest standards of integrity and professionalism.

She emphasised that globally, aviation business is hinged on security and safety, adding that the aviation security department is very critical to passengers’ facilitation and airport operations.

“Permit me to remind us that the safety and security of lives and property is at the core of our business. As such, we deploy all human and material resources to ensure we provide the nation with the best trained personnel to carry out our various job functions with an emphasis on Aviation Security.” she said.

Speaking to the new intakes, the FAAN MD said “You, dear Cadets, are our eyes and ears. Commit all our civil aviation regulations to heart and be as watchful as the eagle. Each time a plane takes to the skies or lands safely, acknowledge that you played a vital role in making it happen. I look forward to seeing you in the field with a smile on your faces and wish you the very best in your chosen careers.”
