2 men, women get 4 months each over fake chieftaincy title

An Upper Area court in Zuba, FCT, yesterday sentenced two men and a woman to four months in prison each for attempting to deceive a trader with a fake chieftaincy title.
Those sentenced are; Munir Muhammadu, 30, Aisha Kabir, 52, and Kamal Abdulmumuni, 25.

They were charged with two counts of criminal conspiracy and attempt to cheat.
Malam Aminu Sa’ad, the Presiding Judge, sentenced them after they pleaded guilty.
Sa’ad, however, gave the convicts an option to pay N25, 000 each as fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Sgt. Haruna Danlami told the court that they confessed on May 22, that they planned to swindle a trader, Alhaji Muhammadu Sani of Dei-Dei, Abuja of an undisclosed amount of money.

Danlami said the convicts approached Sani with the intention of deceiving him to part with some amount of money on the pretext that that they could arrange a chieftaincy title for him.
He said that the complainant did not agree with them and immediately alerted the police.
The prosecutor said the offence contravenes the provisions of Sections 95 and 96 of the Penal Code. (NAN)
