15 Wrestlers to represent Nigeria in African C’ships

Nigeria Wrestling Federation (NWF) has announced a strong team of 15 athletes that will fly the country’s flag at the 2020 African Wrestling Championships in Algiers, Algeria, from February 3rd to 9th.


The list which made up 10 female and 3 male wrestlers comprises Blessing Oborududu (68kg), a 9-time African champion and world No. 2 Odunayo Adekuoroye (57kg) for the female category.


Also in the list are multiple African champions Aminat Adeniyi (62kg), Mercy Genesis (50kg), and World champion in Beach wrestling Blessing Onyebuchi (76kg), African champions Sunmisola Balogun (72kg), Bose Samuel (53kg), Bisola Makanjuola (59kg), Hannah Reuben (65kg) and Esther Kolawole (55kg).


The male athletes are Amas Daniel (65kg), Emmanuel John (74kg),Soso Tamarau (97kg), Ebikewino Welson (57kg),  and Ekerekeme Agiomor (86kg), are also in the squad.
The wrestlers have been intensifying preparations for the tournament in close camps in Yenagoa and Akure.
They will be accompanied to the African Championships by four coaches and four officials namely Happiness Burutu, Victor Kodei, Purity Akuh, Joe Oziti, Hon. Daniel Igali (NWF President)


Umar Almu (NWF Sec. Gen.), Adam Kabir (Medical) and Emeka Dennar (Media Officer).
The delegation, which will be led by the President of the NWF Igali, is expected to depart Nigeria on February 5th and arrive Algiers the next day via a Turkish Airline flight.
Team Nigeria will begin competition at the tournament in Women Wrestling on February 8th, with the men in action a day after.
The Nigerian women are defending champions in Women Wrestling at the African Championships, and will be hoping to successfully claim the title for a record of 9th time in a row.
